WGCCEEO PARTICIPATES IN WASCI CONSULTATIVE FORUM ON ENDING CHILD MARRIAGE IN NIGERIA

WGCCEEO was at the convening of Civil Society Organizations to end Child Marriage in Nigeria organized by the West Africa Civil Society Institute (WASCI) on the 19th and 20th March 2019 in Abuja Nigeria.
Project Theme
Capacity strengthening support project for Civil Society Organizations working on ending Child Marriage in West Africa.
Long Term Goal
The goal of the project is to strengthen the capacity of Civil Society Organizations, networks, and coalitions working on Child Marriage in 6 priority countries through network building and advocacy.
Specific Program Objectives
Identify and strengthen key capacity needs of selected organizations, coalitions and networks from 6 priority countries.
Strengthen organizations, coalitions and networks to engage in high level dialogue with policy makers on Child Marriage issues.
Help in the establishment and or strengthening of National Strategies Partnerships between selected organizations and coalitions/networks.
The Meeting Objectives are-
Reflect on the status of Child Marriage practice in Nigeria including historical context, relevant legislation, challenges and opportunities for effective advocacy.
Deliberate on the process to establish and/or strengthen a national platform/network of CSOs and key stakeholders working to end Child Marriage practice in Nigeria.
Conduct a mapping of Civil Society Sector to identify key stakeholders engaged directly or indirectly in advocating for an end to Child Marriage practice in Nigeria.
Carry out needs capacity and structural assessment o0f organizations or network of Civil Society Organizations to mobilize support, engage policy makers and increase advocacy to end child marriage.
Jointly identify key advocacy activities/entry points for 2019 and develop an action plan to increase awareness and education on the consequences of Child Marriage.
The meeting came to an end with participants networking and agreeing to work together on areas of mutual interest.
